Message from the President Iris Gomez

February 22, 2023

Dear Friends and Enthusiasts of Masonic Research,

I want to share some good news about the Maryland Masonic Research Society (MMRS). The COVID years, when we could only hold meetings and presentations through Zoom, were a challenge. We were fortunate to have meetings and presentations that included domestic and international researchers and enthusiasts of Freemasonry. In 2023, the Society will again start holding in person meetings and presentations.

We remain true to our commitment to deliver quality presentations to our members. Our next in person meeting will be on March 25, 2023. Companion (PP) Ed Johnson will be doing a presentation on Possible Influence of Plato in Masonic Ritual. The meeting will be held at the AOOF in Catonsville, MD.

We have an interesting and varied line up of presentations for the rest of 2023. On May 13, the topic will be From The Temple To The Target: A Modern Take On Metallurgy; for October 14, the presentation will be Women In Freemasonry Discussion Panel, panelists will include representatives from mixed lodges, all female lodges and the Order of The Eastern Star; and for our last regular meeting of 2023 on December 9th, we will have a presentation on: #metoo, Masculinity and Freemasonry.

We changed the time of day for our Festive Board. This year, the Festive Board will be a luncheon on August 12th at The King’s Contrivance Restaurant in Columbia, MD. Our presenter will be Doctor Oscar Alleyne, President, The Masonic Society. Dr. Alleyne is an internationally recognized Masonic speaker who has presented over 100 lectures covering multiple areas of interest to over 5,000 Freemasons. He has published in several widely distributed Masonic journals, research bodies and academic conferences on Freemasonry.

To attend our meetings and presentations, get advance notice, meet other Masonic researchers, increase your knowledge of Freemasonry, and have access to our on-line Library you can become a member by completing an application, available at www.md-mrs.com or contacting our Secretary at mmrs1979@gmail.com. Do join us in this journey!

Sincerely,

Iris M. Gomez
